More mystery (and murder) from Rian Johnson is headed to Netflix. Today, the creator officially announced a third Knives Out film in the works.

In a video reveal posted to X, Johnson unveiled the title for the next Benoit Blanc mystery: Wake Up Dead Man. Check out the teaser video below.

Johnson wrote and directed the original 2019 murder mystery comedy Knives Out, which introduced fans to Daniel Craig as the detective Benoit Blanc. Then, in 2022, Johnson partnered with Netflix to release another feature in the same universe, Glass Onion

While we don’t have plot details or casting information for Wake Up Dead Man just yet, we do know a few things. First, Craig will return to reprise his role as Blanc. In the voiceover from Johnson’s teaser, the detective describes Wake Up Dead Man as his “most dangerous case yet.”

Over on Tudum, Netflix describes the film as “a brand new murder mystery in an as-yet-undisclosed setting, surrounded by a new colorful cast of suspects.” So, it seems like Wake Up Dead Man will operate similarly to Glass Onion, with a new location and new cast of celebrities rounding out the suspect list.

Johnson will write and direct the third film, just like the previous two installments.

“I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is,” Johnson shared on X in a thread announcing the film’s title. “There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”

Finally, the teaser revealed a vague release date for Knives Out 3; the film will premiere on Netflix in 2025. Until then, check back to THS for more updates.
