Steven Spielberg Sets New “Original Event Film” For 2026

The next Steven Spielberg movie will release in 2026. He’s joining up with David Koepp (writer of Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds) once again for a new movie from Universal Pictures. It’ll open in theaters on May 15th, 2026. The film is still untitled but the studio described it as a “new original event film”. It’s been previously rumored that Spielberg was working on a UFO story for his next movie.

Obviously, Spielberg is one of the most renowned and successful directors in the history of Hollywood. He’s done movies like Jaws, E.T., in addition to the Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park movies. He’s also won Oscars for Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan. His most recent movie, The Fablemans was a semi-autobiographical film about his own upbringing, which received several Oscar nominations but didn’t light up the box office.

Even with that bit of disappointment on his ledger, Spielberg is still the undisputed king of summer blockbusters. This new movie, especially with its release date, is looking to cement that even further.
