Prime Video continues to dominate when it comes to juicy YA Content. Seriously, they give us gems like The Summer I Turned Pretty, Panic, The Wilds, and Harlan Coben’s Shelter to name a few. The latest incredible addition to their list is Maxton Hall. The series is a 6 episode German series based on the books by Mona Kasten and introduces us to Ruby Bell and James Beaufort.

Ruby, a sharp scholarship student, inadvertently stumbles upon a huge secret at Maxton Hall. James a wealthy and arrogant heir, is intent on keeping her quiet, but their confrontation unexpectedly sparks a connection between them.

Somehow this series combines all of my favorite tropes into one and makes it magical. Do you love different socioeconomic backgrounds falling in love? Check. Do you enjoy enemies to lovers? Check. Do you like a boy who falls in love with a girl cause she’s not like the rest of them? Check! Seriously, Maxton Hall has it all.

WHAT MAKES MAXTON HALL SO GREAT?

You read that correctly above, this is a German series that Prime Video is gifting us. You can watch it in German with subtitles or with a dubbed cast. I don’t normally enjoy dubbing, but the cast of this series does an incredible job. I found myself enthralled, obsessed, dying to see what happens next with every episode.

Maxton Hall feels like an old-school WB/CW TV show. It’s filled with fantastic characters, storytelling, and angsty drama. Damian Hardung and Harriet Herbig-Matten portray the lead roles of James and Ruby and their chemistry is insane. I love the way Ruby is portrayed as this super-smart girl who doesn’t take crap from anyone. She goes toe to toe with James constantly refusing to let him treat her poorly or push her away. If you watched The Vampire Diaries, James is easily Niklaus “Klaus” Mikaelson. He’s a rich kid with a terrible father who’s trying to be his own person. There are even moments with Ruby that remind me of him and Caroline and I love it.

The series does have one trope that I’m never a fan of. Which is a teacher having a relationship with a student. I think it’s a trip that needs to be buried 12 feet under and never used again. That said, Maxton Hall is angsty YA perfection and I cannot WAIT for season 2!

MAXTON HALL is now streaming on Prime Video!
