Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF Ep. 7 “Scale of God and Sorcerer of the Grasslands” is quite the interesting episode for fans of both economics and the original light novels. Not only do we get some mercantile intrigue in this episode, but we even meet a fan favorite character. Which one, you might ask? Well, here’s a hint: this character has something to do with sheep.

Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF Ep. 7 “Scale of God and Sorcerer of the Grasslands”: Synopsis

At least Holo is back to bering her usual cheerfully mischievous and gluttonous self.

Alas, Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF is an ongoing anime series. In fact, Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF Ep. 7 “Scale of God and Sorcerer of the Grasslands” only just premiered yesterday at the time of this writing. Thus, you will all get the official synopsis from Crunchyroll instead of a spoiler-filled plot summary…or rather, that’s what I wish I could say. For some reason, Crunchyroll only has nothing but blank space where the episode’s synopsis should be. Thus, in its stead, you all will be getting the official synopsis of the anime as a whole, also from Crunchyroll. You can check out that synopsis below:

Lawrence is a traveling merchant selling various goods from a horse-drawn cart. One day, he arrives at a village and meets a beautiful girl with the ears and tail of an animal! Her name is Holo the Wisewolf and she brings bountiful harvests. She wishes to return to her homeland, and Lawrence offers to take her. Now, the once-lonely merchant and the once-lonely wisewolf begin their journey north.

Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF Ep. 7 “Scale of God and Sorcerer of the Grasslands”: The Good

Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF Ep. 7 "Scale of God and Sorcerer of the Grasslands" visual by Jū Ayakura.
The true star of this week’s episode, and Jū Ayakura knows it.

There’s no question here; the story of Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF Ep. 7 “Scale of God and Sorcerer of the Grasslands” is very clearly the best part of this episode. All because it’s very faithful to the original light novel’s story by Isuna Hasekura. Right down to Holo’s cleverness and the duo meeting the above character. Especially the latter. It’s rather exciting to meet her for the first time, since she has some very interesting dynamics with Lawrence and Holo. But that’s for the next episode. For now, it’s Holo’s mercantile antics against a devout merchant that is the star of this episode.

And then of course, what would that story be without the animation to go with it? Passione has shown that they’re really, well, passionate about this anime in terms of animation quality. The whole anime looks as though it’s a medieval painting in motion, and as an anime. This includes this episode, especially when you look at the backgrounds and background objects. They just have that medieval look to their designs that perfectly complements the medieval economic fantasy story.

My reaction to someone thinking Spice and Wolf is bad.

Admittedly, if you’re an action junkie who only likes action and nothing but, then Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF Ep. 7 “Scale of God and Sorcerer of the Grasslands” would probably not be for you. In fact, this entire anime is probably not for you if you only care about action sequences. Perhaps Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Kaiju No. 8, or Solo Leveling would be anime series that are more to your liking?
