3 Body Problem gets the greenlight for season 2. Netflix revealed during its Upfronts presentation today that the sci-fi series will officially return.

Series creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo will return to executive produce and write the show’s second season. Netflix also released a renewal announcement video, which you can watch below.

3 Body Problem tells the story of humanity’s first contact with an alien civilization. The series  follows a young woman whose fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time into the present day. When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel before their eyes, a close-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unflinching detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.

The Netflix series is based on the books by Cixin Liu.

“We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion. Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!” Benioff, Weiss, and Woo said in a joint statement.

The YouTube description for the renewal announcement echoes a similar sentiment. (“Netflix will bring this epic story through its mind-blowing conclusion!”) This seems to imply the second season of 3 Body Problem will wrap up the series.
