Prime Video and Reese Witherspoon are teaming up to make a Legally Blonde TV series. (What, like it’s hard?)

During Amazon Studios’ Upfronts presentation, the studio revealed plans for Elle, a Legally Blonde prequel series. The show follows Elle Woods in high school. It will showcase the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first movie.

Witherspoon, star of the Legally Blonde films, will executive produce the series under her Hello Sunshine banner. Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure) will serve as showrunner.

Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?!” Witherspoon said. “I’m extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine – along with our amazing writer Laura Kittrell – for making this dream of mine come true. Legally Blonde is back!”

“Reese and Hello Sunshine’s vision for this series, coupled with Laura Kittrell’s winning voice, made this show completely undeniable,” added Vernon Sanders, head of TV at Amazon MGM Studios. “One of the most quotable, iconic, and beloved characters that is ingrained in the fabric of Hollywood history has to be Elle Woods, and we are honored to bring her origin story to our global Prime Video customers.”

The original Legally Blonde film premiered in 2001, with Witherspoon in the lead role. She reprised her pink-clad lawyer role in the sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde in 2003. 

Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine previously teamed with Amazon on the limited series Daisy Jones & the Six and the film Something from Tiffany’s. 

Prime Video did not provide any casting details or a premiere window for Elle during the Upfronts. So, check back to THS for more updates.
