Searchlight Pictures used Mother’s Day as an opportunity to tease the studio’s upcoming feature Nightbitch

The horror comedy stars Amy Adams as a woman who pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mom. But she soon finds her new domesticity takes a surreal turn. With the feature not set to release until later this year, Searchlight’s staying mum (ha) on the details for now. But we did get an official poster featuring Adams this weekend. Check it out below.

The poster shows only a close-up on Adams’ face, smudged with dirt, leaving her looking ragged. It also features the tagline “Motherhood is a bitch”.

Nightbitch comes from writer/director Marielle Heller. While we don’t have many details about the film’s plot just yet, we do know it’s based off of a 2021 novel by Rachel Yoder. Here’s the synopsis of the Nightbitch novel from Yoder’s website:

One day, the mother was a mother, but then one night, she was quite suddenly something else…

An ambitious mother puts her art career on hold to stay at home with her newborn son, but the experience does not match her imagination. Two years later, she steps into the bathroom for a break from her toddler’s demands, only to discover a dense patch of hair on the back of her neck. In the mirror, her canines suddenly look sharper than she remembers. Her husband, who travels for work five days a week, casually dismisses her fears from faraway hotel rooms.

As the mother’s symptoms intensify, and her temptation to give into her new dog impulses peak, she struggles to keep her alter-canine-identity secret. Seeking a cure at the library, she discovers the mysterious academic tome which becomes her bible, “A Field Guide to Magical Women: A Mythical Ethnography,” and meets a group of mommies involved in a multi-level-marketing scheme who may also be more than what they seem.

An outrageously original novel of ideas about art, power and womanhood wrapped in a satirical fairy tale, Nightbitch will make you want to howl in laughter and recognition. And you should. You should howl as much as you want.

In addition to Adams, the film also stars Scoot McNairy, Arleigh Patrick Snowden, Emmett James Snowden, Zoë Chao, Mary Holland, Archana Rajan, and Jessica Harper.

Though previously slated to premiere December 6, the new poster for Nightbitch indicates a quicker timeline; apparently, the film will now debut sometime this fall. Stay tuned to THS for more updates.
