C2E2 2024 has come and gone but not without leaving some amazing memories. This year C2E2 celebrated its 15th anniversary and it did not disappoint. One of the reasons it didn’t disappoint was the return of Funko to the convention. The theme for this year’s appearance was called “FUNKO AIRWAYS – Where Fun Takes Flight”. This airport theme included the Funko booth as a plane and the Loungefly and Mondo booths as airport shops. Each booth had C2E2 exclusives you could buy throughout the day and Funko Founder Mike Becker would come out talk to the crowds and do giveaways. Even though the staff was going nonstop, I was able to talk with Funko’s Vice President of POP! Yourself & Retail Dave Bere and Mondo’s Senior Creative Director of Collectibles Peter Santa Maria about their layover at C2E2.
Interview With Funko’s Vice President of POP! Yourself & Retail Dave Bere
First I was able to talk with Funko’s Vice President of POP! Yourself & Retail Dave Bere. We discussed Funko’s return to C2E2 and focused on the Funko POP! Yourself lineup at Funko.com and what we could look forward to. While at the time of the interview, he couldn’t talk about what else was coming until the panel later that day, but I will highlight some of that information in this article as well. You can check out our interview below.
Interview With Mondo’s Senior Creative Director of Collectibles Peter Santa Maria
Next, I got to talk with Mondo’s Senior Creative Director of Collectibles Peter Santa Maria. During this time we talk about the Mondo exclusives and some of the items they brought out of the vault for C2E2. You can see that interview below.
Highlights From The Funko Panel
- The Funko panel started just like you expected. Funko Mike and his team got the crowd going by giving out prizes and getting fans hyped about new Funko, Loungefly, and Mondo releases. Here are some of the highlights from that panel.
- The Jumbo Chan Freddy was revealed and it is a 14-inch-tall figure inspired by retro Japanese toy design. This figure will have a run of 1200 pieces.
- Loungefly is doing a series of Scooby-Doo and Minions bags
- Dave and Karissa talked more about the ‘Pop! Yourself’ brand and showed off the two packs.
- Mondo revealed a new 1:6 scale figure collab with ThunderCats.
- Mondo also teased a Ghostbusters line in the future. More to come at SDCC.
- They ended with showing off the Daredevil series for both Funko and Loungefly. Also, we got to see the Cyclops figure from Mondo.
Funko Brought The Fun All Weekend
Funko was the place to be during C2E2. The whole weekend fans lined up to buy the C2E2 exclusives, stood around for a chance to win things, and even just hung out to talk to other fans. There were even times when celebrities who were guests of the show signed items and gave them away. One of those guests, Vanessa Marshall, who voiced Hera in Star Wars Rebels had the crowd going as she gave away a signed Funko POP! and a Chopper Loungefly Bag. Check out some of the pictures below.
