Hey everybody, have you heard the news? Joe Bob is back in town. This week was a return to Walpurgisnacht as Joe Bob and Darcy celebrated a night dedicated to Witches. If you’re unfamiliar, every second week on The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs; the former Monstervision host and his co-host Darcy The Mail Girl feature a movie that sometimes has a timely theme (but not always).
In this episode, they showed The Autopsy Of Jane Doe.
Dissecting The Autopsy Of Jane Doe
You don’t have to get far on the internet to find varying opinions on this movie, as it can be a divisive one. It even appeared on social media that once people found out this was the movie of the week, many of them logged off to do something else.
While I personally have issues with some of the plot elements of the movie. Part of watching any movie on The Last Drive-In is a rewarding experience is getting background information on the movie. It certainly helped that Joe Bob and Darcy were joined by Eric Garcia (Producer), Richard Naing (Writer), and Ian B. Goldberg (Writer).
The three crew members gave great insight into the movie; and while it may not excuse or completely remove issues with the movie for some. It’s at least true that this has to be one of the best ways to experience the movie. This is true for almost every movie shown on The Last Drive-In.
There was also a subplot running in the segments of Darcy being a ‘witch’ and Joe Bob using many ‘torture’ methods on her. It was fun, but not exactly as meme-worthy as previous years.
Conclusion
All in all, it was a solid episode of The Last Drive-In. While The Autopsy of Jane Doe is divisive; watching it with the writers and producer there to help explain and give context to the movie helped elevate the movie somewhat. It ends up being solid with some entertainment but is by far not in the top tier of episodes from The Last Drive-In.
