It would be a bit weird to have a Tron movie without Jeff Bridges, right? The man has been in both movies, Tron and Tron: Legacy. With the upcoming Tron: Ares filming still, it seems like a match made in heaven, or the grid. According to the man himself, on the Flim Comment podcast, he had this to say.
I’m heading off this Saturday to play a part in the third installment of the ‘Tron’ story; I’m excited about that. It’s wild. Jared Leto is the star of this third one, and I’m really anxious to work with him, and I’ve admired his work.”
The project is a follow-up to Tron: Legacy which makes sense why Bridges might be back for the sequel. As of now, it’s unknown if Garrett Hedlund or Olivia Wilde will return as their characters, or any other characters from Tron or Tron: Legacy for that matter.
The new movie focuses on the emergence of Ares, a program that becomes self-aware and sentient who crosses over into the human world. Except our world is really not ready for the crossover and contact between physical and the grid. Jared Leto will play the human version of Ares in the film.
It’s directed by Joachim Rønning with a script from Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. It also stars Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins.
We recently got the first-look at what Ares and the new world of Tron looks like.
Tron: Ares has a current release date of October 10th, 2025.
