Netflix’s Sandman Universe got a ghoulish expansion this week with the premiere of Dead Boy Detectives. We sat down with the stars George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri to dive into the series.
The supernatural mystery follows Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, ghosts and best friends who run a paranormal detective agency.
“Edwin is extremely formulaic,” Rexstrew said of his character. “He’s methodical. He thinks everything through. He devises the plan. And then he hands the bottle to Charles and Charles does the throwing.”
“Charles is the complete opposite,” Revri added. “He’s very spontaneous, doesn’t go by the rules or the plan. He just turns up and does whatever feels right at the moment.”
The duo play ghosts in Dead Boy Detectives. But the magical world of the series and their investigations brings them in contact with a ton of other supernatural entities. When asked what other creature they’d like a chance to play, Rexstrew said, “I’d love to be a Sprite with Jayden. But I wouldn’t want to be trapped in a jar with him.”
“That’s a show in itself, me and you trapped in a jar together,” Revri joked. “I would be Monty, just so I could be Esther’s pet. No explanation needed, Jenn [Lyon]’s incredible.”
Check out our full interview below to learn about Edwin’s biggest modern misunderstanding, Charles’ 80s influences, and the pair’s favorite monsters from the season. Plus, see what Rexstrew says that makes Revri do a literal spit take.
