This trailer reveals more than the last teaser for the film, but still keeps the specifics vague. So, here’s the synopsis of Cuckoo from NEON to help you out:
Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn’t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.
The film, shot on 35 mm, comes from German director Tilman Singer (LUZ). It stars Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer, who recently appeared in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The film also stars Dan Stevens and Jessica Henwick.
Cuckoo recently made its North American debut at SXSW. The film was previously slated to premiere in theaters in May, but it has now been pushed back several months. You can officially catch it in theaters August 9.
