The Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the theme park will launch a dedicated experiential program with both new and nostalgic attractions for guests.

“The Studio Tour paved the way for the development of Universal Studios Hollywood and celebrating its 60-year milestone pays homage to its indelible impact,” said Scott Strobl, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Universal Studios Hollywood. “The Studio Tour is a crown jewel in our theme park portfolio and a beloved attraction for millions of guests. We are thrilled and honored to share our enthusiasm for its historic relevance with guests both new to the experience as well as those who have journeyed with us along the way.”

From April 26 to August 11, Universal Studios Hollywood will celebrate the Studio Tour’s 60th anniversary with both new experiences and throwback aspects to highlight the tour’s history. Here’s a look at what you can expect.

Glamor Trams

Universal Studios Hollywood will reissue their iconic “Glamor Trams,” with red and white candy-striped awnings to transport guests on their tour.

Movie Set Moments

The anniversary tours will allow guests to step off the tram and onto a legendary movie set. The area will provide unique photo opportunities, including an original, fully restored 1964 Glamor Tram, a King Kong backdrop, and the park’s original hanging Jaws shark.

Visit the Hollywood Sign Replica

Partnering with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Universal Studios Hollywood will debut the first-ever original replica of the Hollywood Sign, standing at 10 feet high. The replica sign will be located near the tram step-off spot, so guests can also take photos near the sign.

Renovated “Earthquake—The Big One” Stop

The original “Earthquake” attraction debuted on the Studio Tour in 1989. It’s been shaking things up ever since (ha!). The attraction recently underwent a full renovation, and will debut with contemporary technology and aesthetics.

Back to the Future at Courthouse Square

During your visit to Courthouse Square – where scenes from Back to the Future filmed – you can see a DeLorean on display, as well as a Doc Brown character.

Return of the Runaway Train

The backlot tour will feature additional surprises and cameos from years gone by, including the temporary return of the 1976 Runaway Train, complete with warning bells and sirens. On the tram monitors, you’ll see clips of attractions as they once appeared on the tour.

Jurassic World T-Rex Encounter

The giant Tyrannosaurus rex used to promote Jurassic World will appear next to a locked paddock of wild dinosaurs clamoring to escape.

60th Anniversary Food & Merch

Outside of the changes to the Studio Tour itself, you can celebrate the 60th anniversary throughout the park with special food, drinks, merch, and memorabilia.

The 60th anniversary menu, curated by the theme park’s Executive Chef Julia Thrash, will help guests step back in time to enjoy a retro sampling of foods and drinks. Check out throwback-inspired offerings at Hollywood & Dine, Mel’s Diner, Studio Scoops, and City Snack Shop. A special 60th anniversary Dining Pass will allow guests a selection of six menu items (two entrees and four snacks, sides, desserts, or beverages).

Finally, no anniversary celebration would be complete without some merch to commemorate the milestone. Gift shops at Universal Studios Hollywood will feature special 60th anniversary products, including a Glamor Tram-shaped popcorn bucket and other retro-themed souvenirs.

The Universal Studios Hollywood 60th Studio Tour Anniversary celebration runs from April 26 to August 11. Visit universalstudioshollywood.com to reserve your theme park tickets and plan your visit.
