After a run starring on The Mandalorian and the masterful Love Lies Bleeding, Katy O’Brian has joined the cast of Mission: Impossible 8. Deadline was the first with the news that she’d be joining Tom Cruise in the sequel to 2023’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. Her character and plot details are unknown at this time.
That film saw Ethan Hunt (Cruise) trying to stop The Entity, a rogue artificial intelligence program that was hell-bent on destroying the world. For the eighth film in addition to Cruise, Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, and Pom Klementieff are expected to reprise. Other newcomers to the franchise aboard for the eighth film, as previously reported, include Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman, Janet McTeer, and Hannah Waddingham.
Christopher McQuarrie is back to direct and wrote the script for the film as well. He’s also producing alongside Cruise, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger and Chris Brock serving as exec producers. It was thought that Mission: Impossible 8 would end the series, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, as McQuarrie has suggested in interviews that the series will go on. Due to the dual strikes of last year, it had to be moved from a June 28th, 2024 release date to May 23rd, 2025.
O’Brian had quite the year in 2023 and heading into 2024 with roles for Marvel, Star Wars, A24, and she’s also appeared in numerous TV shows. She’ll be in the film Twisters, a sequel to the 1996 film, starring alongside Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones. That film releases on July 19th, 2024.
So, what do you think of Katy O’Brian joining Mission: Impossible 8?
