While this was announced as happening two years ago, any further news was scarce about the sequel to A Simple Favor. Until now! It’s all officially coming together with the main cast returning as well as director Paul Feig.

Per Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios has made it official today that the movie is on deck, and with the original cast members returning including Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack. Paul Feig will once again be in the director’s chair and Jessica Sharzer, who penned the first film, is also returning to write the sequel. Shooting is expected to start this spring and a streaming release is being planned by Amazon MGM Studios in 240 countries.

In addition to the cast announcement and shooting start date, plot details have also been released by Amazon MGM Studios:

“In part two, we see the return of Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.”

A Simple Favor is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Darcey Bell and it follows a small-town vlogger, played by Kendrick, who tries to solve the disappearance of her elegant and mysterious best friend, played by Lively. The movie was a critical and financial success, grossing $97 million worldwide on a $20 million budget.
