Arthur the King tells the inspiring true story of Michael Lindnord, an adventure racer who formed an unlikely bond with a stray dog during a race in the Dominican Republic. This film is not just inspiring, it is emotional, exciting, and exhilarating as viewers will be on the edge of their seats and holding their breath as the events unfold.

Mark Wahlberg stars as Michael and it doesn’t take long to realize that he has put everything into this role. He goes through a lot over the course of the movie, learning a lot about himself along the way. In order to compete in the adventure race, he must form a team of four and find a sponsor, something that was harder than he expected after having not even finished the previous adventure race.

His teammates are played by Simu Liu, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Ali Suliman – each of whom bring something special to Arthur the King, just as they bring something special to their team in the movie. Their chemistry is easily recognized as they deliver a lot of humor and fun times together, but also help each other out along the way as needed, always willing to put their fellow athletes above themselves.

While this is very much a sports movie, as it details the harrowing things that adventure racers go through, it is also an animal movie. Arthur, the stray dog who follows this team for days across treacherous terrains, is the heart of the film. It is crazy to think that this is a true story, and a real dog did this. Not only determined to live, but to step in and save lives when necessary. It is the bond between Arthur and Michael that will have many audience members wiping away tears.

The reason Arthur the King works as well as it does is because it perfectly combines humor and heart. On the sports side of things, there are some truly intense scenes that will have viewers holding their breath as well as cheering the athletes on. It is remarkable what these people go through in this sport that is not as well known as it should be.

When it comes to the part of the story surrounding Arthur, his journey, and his connection to the team, this is where the true emotion lies. Sure, it is entertaining to watch these people hang from ziplines and climb up cliffs, but there is something instantly heartwarming about a dog. Viewers will instantly fall in love with Arthur. He is lovable, brave, and clearly, a great companion.

For those who do not already know the story of Michael and Arthur, there are many twists and turns along the way. The story is not as predictable as one might think. As the credits start to roll, the audience is treated to real life photos of the events that transpired, proving that much of the story is not fabricated at all – making it that much more impressive. Wahlberg has a way with the dog that plays Arthur, which makes it all that much more believable on screen.
