The Last Airbender will return for a second and third season on Netflix.
The streamer announced that it has greenlit Albert Kim’s take on Avatar: The Last Airbender for another two seasons that will “conclude the epic story as the four nations unite – Water. Earth. Fire. Air. – to bring The Legend of Aang to its proper conclusion.”
The show follows Aang (Gordon Cormier), a young Avatar, as he learns to master the four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, and Air) and restore balance to the world after the Fire Nation threatens it.
The show is a reimagining of the Nickelodeon animated series, which ran for three seasons starting in 2005. Airing in February on Netflix, the streamer reported that The Last Airbender was the number one English TV show with 41.1 million views in just the first 11 days. We gave it a 92% score here at That Hashtag Show!
Although Netflix has revealed that seasons 2 and 3 are on the way, they have not announced any further casting information, plot details, or episode counts. Although the cast list for season 2 hasn’t been confirmed yet by Netflix, we’re expecting Gordon Cormier, Dallas Liu, Kiawentiio Tarbell, and Ian Ousley to return.
However, they did share a teaser poster with fans of the show. Fans are expecting the seasons to be filmed back to back so the young actors can stay young-looking. The teaser poster suggests that, like the animated series, the second and third seasons of the live-action adaptation will focus on the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation.
