It appears the Liam Neeson-led Naked Gun reboot finally has a release date and it was unveiled during Paramount Pictures’ earnings day.
Per Deadline, the reboot has been officially dated for July 18, 2025. The film will be directed and produced by Akiva Schaffer while Dan Gregor and Doug Man penned the draft script along with Schaffer, continuing a working relationship after partnering on the Primetime Emmy-winning film, Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers. Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are also producing via their company Fuzzy Door label.
While exact story details about the remake are unknown, The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (also known as simply The Naked Gun), was released in 1988 and was directed by David Zucker. Starring Leslie Nielsen, the film features him as the bumbling police lieutenant Frank Drebin and it follows his attempt to foil a plan to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II.
The franchise is a crime-spoof comedy series that began as a TV show in 1982 called Police Squad! The series was followed by three theatrical releases that include the aforementioned 1988 film, 1991’s The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear, and 1994’s Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult.
