Last week’s episode of Ghosts ended with the possibility of a seance to see Flower one last time. However, this week’s episode didn’t pick up where we left off. Instead, we find ourselves in 1875 in a Hetty flashback.
Hetty is coming home from a stroll and is confronted by her father. Why? Because he has found a scandalous portrait and knows she’s been having rendezvous with its artist. “Full ankle!” How could she?
While it seems this storyline is odd and possibly pointless, it turns out to be the heart of the episode.
JAY’S SISTER IS BACK IN TOWN!
As the episode continues, Sam (Rose McIver) is headed off to a bachelorette party for the weekend. Of course, this stresses out the ghosts because who is going to talk to them and change the TV Channel? However, in fun news, Jay’s (Utkarsh Ambudkar) sister, Baela, and her boyfriend Eric are coming to visit while she’s gone.
While playing catch up, Eric lets Jay know that the plans for the restaurant he drew up are on the house. Which is a huge relief since money is tight. Then, Baela and Eric drop a huge bomb! Apparently, after the events of last season, Eric can now see ghosts! Just kidding. It turns out that’s a HUGE lie and only the ghosts know because Sam isn’t home.
When having a moment alone, Beala confides in Jay that Eric’s ability to see ghosts has brought them closer. Then, in a surprising turn of events, Sam returns home because the bachelorette party has been canceled. Of course, the ghosts can’t wait to tell her about Eric’s rouse.
So, Jay and Sam confront Eric alone. Eric then explains himself to Sam and Jay. Also, after the events of last season, he began to feel Baela pulling away and getting bored with him. One day, she casually mentioned thinking it would’ve been cool if he could see ghosts like Sam. So he ran with it. He was in love with her and didn’t want to lose her. So what are they going to do?
HETTY, NIGEL AND THE WEDDING
Currently, Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky) is helping to plan the “gay wedding.” As they’re all discussing options, Nigel shares that he doesn’t want to spend all of Isaac’s (Brandon Scott Jones) book advance on the wedding. This “we” statement doesn’t seem to sit well with her. So, of course, Hetty begins to plant doubt into Isaac’s mind about marriage. She even suggests that he should protect himself with a prenup. When Isaac decides to discuss it with Nigel, Nigel is upset. He feels that Isaac doesn’t believe their marriage will last.
Sass doesn’t love the mess that Hetty has created. So, he brings Hetty down to the basement to see her portrait. Remember the one from the flashback? It’s still fully intact. He reminds her that she once had a choice to make like Isaac. However, her father gave her a choice: money or love. Well, we all know what she chose.
WHERE DO GHOSTS GO FROM HERE?
While Sass and Hetty are gone, Isaac goes to Sam to ask for advice on what he should do with the Nigel issue. Hetty interrupts them dragging Isaac into the room. She shares with him that she made the wrong choice in her own life and wasn’t happy in her marriage. She never experienced true love and doesn’t want them to throw away their relationship because of it. In the end, they agree that love is more important than money. Huzzah!
While Eric, Jay, and Sam are trying to figure out what to say to Baela Jay suggests a way to end the lie without his sister getting hurt. Jay wants to stage an accident that will undo Eric’s fake ability to see ghosts. Eric agrees thinking it’s a great idea, but he plans to throw himself down the stairs cause he’s a good tumbler.
However, when Eric goes to follow through with the plan he makes a HUGE mistake saying he walked through Flower. When they first arrived they were told about Flower being sucked off! Whoops. So, the rouse comes tumbling down. But, before they can stop him Eric still throws himself down the stairs.
In the end, Jay owns up to his reverse the-curse idea and Baela is understandably upset. Baela doesn’t want to be with someone who’s a liar. To settle things down, Sam confesses that she and Jay’s relationship started on a tiny lie. Jay doesn’t believe it until she shares the story. It turns out that Sam stalked Jay for two months! In the end, it worked out because now they’re married. Her openness convinces Baela to forgive Eric.
Ghosts, Episode 3 – He Sees Dead People
Ghosts doesn’t typically have filler episodes. However, this one was it. While we got to learn a little bit more about Hetty’s past, in the end, everything that happened was pointless. Next week, the series will have a springtime Halloween episode (shout out to the pushed-back season). Hopefully, that will have us back on track.
