Bob Marley: One Love kept the vibes alive in the number-one spot at the box office this weekend; fending off relatively no competition this past week.
Ruling Over A Barren Box Office
With very little else, and even with a 53% decline from its previous week; Bob Marley: One Love made $13.5 Million in the number-one spot. As per Box Office Mojo, the film has been a runaway success for Paramount at the box office; making nearly $120 Million in total on a $70 million budget.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Hashira Training was in the second place spot; earning $11.6 Million. The Sony/Crunchy Roll release managed to outperform Sony’s other major release, Madame Web. The movie dropped to fourth place at the box office with a shocking $6 Million. The movie has thus far made $87 Million. Given its $100 Million budget, it would likely have to make twice that to be considered breaking even. While Venom 3 and Kraven The Hunter are on the horizon; one has to wonder what the future of the Sony Spider-verse movies is. With the resounding failure at the box office of multiple films in this franchise; the future is something not even Madame Web herself can predict.
Ordinary Angels debuted in third place with $6.5 million. The film was projected to earn $5-$10 Million. So it made a respectable amount back.
Finally, Migration was in fifth with $3 Million. The other new release this week, Drive-Away Dolls, didn’t even manage to crack the Top 5 in the number-eight spot with $2.5 Million.
Next Weekend
Next weekend will see the release of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two. The movie is looking to make $60 million to $80 million on its opening weekend which would place it well in the first place spot. The first film opened to $41 million, but Warner Bros. released it in theatres and HBO Max simultaneously. Warner Bros. Discovery is pushing for this movie to be seen in theatres, and in particular IMAX. So it’s likely going to outperform the first based on that alone.
As always we’ll find out next week!
