Wynonna Earp rides again. Last week, Tubi announced the fan-favorite series will be back for a new 90-minute special. The new special is titled, Wynonna Earp: Vengeance and is being penned by series creator Emily Andras. The announcement of the new special is huge news for the fans of the supernatural Western series, lovingly referred to as Earpers. Wynonna Earp originally ran for 4 seasons on SyFy until its cancellation in 2021. The series was originally renewed for a 5th season, but due to funding issues by, IDW Entertainment, the show was instead ended with Season 4. During its run, the series built a dedicated fan base and also won the People’s Choice Award for Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show in 2018 and 2020. If you are unfamiliar with the series, check out the Season 1 trailer below.

ABOUT WYNONNA EARP

Wynonna Earp is based on the comic of the same name by Beau Smith. The series follows Wynonna Earp, the great-great-granddaughter of famous lawman, Wyatt Earp. On her 27th birthday, Wynonna returns to her hometown and reluctantly takes on the role that Wyatt Earp’s heir is destined for, demon protector. Her task is to take out the resurrected souls of the criminals who were taken down at one time by her Wyatt Earp. Helping her send the resurrected back to where they belong is Wyatt’s pistol, Peacemaker. Also joining Wynonna in that pursuits are her sister Waverly and Wyatt’s best friend, Doc Holliday.

WYNONNA IS BACK

In addition to Andras, many from the original series are expected to return. Primary cast members Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna), Tim Rozon (Doc Holliday), Dom Provost-Chalkley (Waverly Earp), and Katherine Barrell (Nicole Haught) will all reprise their roles. Paolo Barzman, who directed 21 episodes, including the finale, is also back to helm the special. The return of so many key components of the original series is sure to be welcomed by fans.

Wynonna Earp

Neither the premiere date for the special nor the plot details were announced. However, when asked for hints on the special, Andras told Vanity Fair, who broke the news:

Doc and Wynonna have been on an adventure, and Waverly and Nicole have been at home in [the Earp hometown of] Purgatory, doing their thing. I think it’s going to be really interesting to see, hopefully, what gets everybody home. Maybe facing a challenge they’ve never faced before, something pretty intense. It’s all your favorite — hopefully — character moments, but also a little bit about growing up and sort of, like, being who you are now and earning all your choices.

While audiences wait for the special to premiere later in 2024, the original series can be found on Netflix.
