After days of speculation, it has officially been announced that Miles Teller is joining the cast of Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International’s Michael Jackson biopic, Michael.

Per Deadline, Teller will be playing John Branca, the attorney who played a key role in transitioning Michael Jackson’s career from boy band wonder in The Jackson 5 to the King of Pop as a world-renowned solo star. Branca, who is also a producer on the Antoine Fuqua-directed film, had this to say about Teller’s casting:

“Miles is a compelling screen presence, whom I’ve admired since watching him in Whiplash. He’s the perfect actor to capture John’s enigmatic persona. From our earliest development conversations, it was clear the emotional connection that John still has to Michael. He graciously allowed us to use him as a character in the film and I’m thrilled that it’s Miles who will portray a relationship that extended over 3 decades, through Michael’s greatest triumphs and most difficult days.”

Miles Teller joins Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, who is playing his famous uncle in the title role, Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, who is playing his father and family patriarch Joe Jackson, and Nia Long, who is playing Jackson’s mother Katherine. Juliano Krue is also set to play Michael Jackson during his younger years.

Michael is expected to hit screens on April 18, 2025.
