Outlander fans are now one step closer to getting the promised prequel series. STARZ confirmed today that Outlander: Blood of My Blood officially entered production.

The series will follow two parallel love stories connected to Outlander’s central relationship between Jamie and Claire. These stories will explore the lives and relationship between Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England.

In addition to the production announcement, STARZ confirmed the four key roles for the series: Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy will play Jamie’s parents Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser; and Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine will play Claire’s parents Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp.

“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples. The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie,” said Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner, executive producer, and writer on both series.

Slater’s credits include the Batman series Pennyworth and an appearance in the most recent Indiana Jones film. She will next appear as the lead in Belgravia: The Next Chapter.

Roy has recently appeared in Condor’s Nest, Your Boyfriend Is Mine, and Squeaky Clean Mysteries: Hazardous Duty.

Corfield appeared in both the Mission: Impossible and Star Wars franchises. Her other recent credits include the films Sea Fever and A Million Days, as well as the series We Hunt Together.

Stage and screen star Irvine is best known for the Academy Award nominated film War Horse. His other major projects include The Railway Man and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

The original Outlander series, based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling books, will celebrate its tenth anniversary this summer. STARZ will air the remaining eight episodes of season 7 later this year. The show’s final season will also begin production shortly in Scotland.
