A new Evil Dead movie is on the way from Ghost House Pictures with Director and Co-Writer Sébastien Vaniček.
Deadline had the news that a new Evil Dead movie has been announced by Ghost House Pictures, who is run by Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert. The details of the new film are unknown at this time, but it’ll likely be like 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, which was a side-story to the main Evil Dead franchise. That film was a massive hit with fans and critics alike.
Sébastien Vaniček directed his feature debut with Infested (Vermines). That’s not usual behavior to go from a directorial debut straight to a huge horror franchise like Evil Dead, but they must have seen something in the director. This tracks with the previous two installments in the Evil Dead franchise, the 2013 re-imagining/sequel/remake had Fede Alvarez, who has gone on to a huge career in horror movies. Evil Dead Rise saw Lee Cronin take up the mantle and move the franchise from a cabin in the woods to an old apartment building in Los Angeles.
The wait won’t be nearly as long between movies for this upcoming installment.
Vaniček made his feature directorial debut last year with Infested (Vermines), a horror pic first introduced as part of the Critics’ Week sidebar at the Venice Film Festival. Watching as the residents of a rundown French apartment building battle against an army of deadly, rapidly reproducing spiders, the film won Best Picture and Best Director in its North American premiere at Fantastic Fest, and was also invited to the Sitges Film Festival, where it earned a nomination for Best Motion Picture and won a Special Jury Prize.
