It doesn’t really matter what kind of movies you’re a fan of, you most likely love a movie or series with Carl Weathers in it. The man was a legend of the screen, he commanded viewers with his presence. The star of Predator, Rocky, The Mandalorian, Happy Gilmore, Action Jackson, among plenty of other films and series, died Tuesday at the age of 76.
Here’s what his family had to say in a statement:
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”
He was born January 14th, 1948 in New Orleans. He starred in more than 75 films and TV shows during his illustrious career.

He’s arguably best known for his role in Rocky as Apollo Creed. Later in his career, he saw a revival in interest from sci-fi fans as Greef Karga in The Mandalorian. He also starred in the action vehicle, Action Jackson, which is an underrated ’80s action flick, if you haven’t seen it. He played Creed in the first four Rocky films, and the legacy of his character lives on with the Creed films.
Fans of Adam Sandler’s comedies probably know him as Chubbs from the golf comedy Happy Gilmore. He played a former pro who was forced to leave the professional tour after an alligator ate his hand.
This is a developing story, and we’ll update you as we get more news.
