Blue Giant is certainly one of the more musical anime films in existence. It’s no wonder. This 2023 musical drama anime film adaptation of the 2013 manga of the same name by Shinichi Ishizuka is all about a boy and his love of jazz. This deceptively simple premise for a story earned the manga numerous awards, including the 62nd Shogakukan Manga Award in the General category and the 20th Japan Media Arts Festival Award. It has even won awards overseas in France by being nominated for “Best Comic” at the 46th Angoulême International Comics Festival, among others. All in all, this manga and the anime film are major success stories. Thus, you can see why GKIDS wants to bring this anime film to home video.

Blue Giant: Home Video Details

This is the most intense jazz band I’ve ever seen.

GKIDS is proud to announce that they are bringing Blue Giant to home video. Apparently, they too see the power of music in this anime film from director Yuzuru Tachikawa and studio NUT (Yōjo Senki: Saga of Tanya the Evil, FLCL Alternative). As well as the power of Dai Miyamoto (voiced by Yuki Yamada) and his saxophone. Don’t believe me? Then why not read the anime film’s official synopsis from GKIDS below and see for yourself:

Dai Miyamoto’s life changes when he discovers jazz. He picks up a tenor saxophone and practices every day. After leaving his hometown, Sendai, he pursues a music career in Tokyo with help from his friend Shunji. One day, Dai plays passionately from the heart and convinces talented pianist Yukinori to start a band together. Along with Shunji, a beginner drummer, they form the three-piece band, JASS. With each live performance, they get closer and closer to their dream of playing at So Blue, the most famous jazz club in Japan, in hopes of forever changing the world of jazz.

Based on the manga by Shinichi Ishizuka, Blue Giant from Yuzuru Tachikawa is a moving ode to the power of jazz with original music by HIROMI.

This boy just wants to rock out.
