The talented Mr. Ripley will make his streaming debut soon. Today, Netflix revealed a first look at the new drama series based on Patricia Highsmith’s bestselling novels.
The series follows Tom Ripley, a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York. When he’s hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son to return home, Tom’s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud, and murder.
Andrew Scott plays the title character. You can see the first look at him as Mr. Ripley in the series teaser below.
Scott won a BAFTA Award for his role on BBC’s Sherlock series. He also received numerous award nominations for his work across projects like Fleabag, Black Mirror, and the recent film All of Us Strangers.
Joining Scott in Ripley are Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood and Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf. The extended cast also includes Elliot Sumner, Maurizio Lombardi, Margherita Buy, and John Malkovich.
Ripley comes from Oscar-winning writer/director Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List, Gangs of New York, The Irishman). Zaillian executive produces the series along with Garrett Basch, Clayton Townsend, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy, and Philipp Keel of Diogenes. Star Scott also produces the series.

The eight-episode Ripley series will premiere on Netflix April 4.
