If you enjoyed The Exorcist: Believer, you might be in for some bad news. David Gordon Green is leaving The Exorcist: Deceiver and its sequel, and it’s currently off Universal’s release calendar. The search is on with Blumhouse and Universal to find a new director for the project.

Gordon Green is instead focusing on his upcoming project Nutcrackers with Ben Stiller, as well as the upcoming fourth season of The Righteous Gemstones. The film was set to release in theaters on April 18th, 2025, but now doesn’t have a release date. That date is being taken over by the upcoming Antoine Fuqua-directed Michael Jackson biopic, Michael.

The Exorcist: Believer had high hopes from horror fans that wanted more from the series, however, it didn’t catch on. It was a major disappointment at the box office and it was panned by critics and fans alike. Hopefully, some new blood at the creative head for The Exorcist: Deceiver can bring the series back to prosperity. You can read our review of The Exorcist: Believer here.
