We all know by now that Godzilla Minus One got a whole bunch of praise of critics and audiences alike (just look at the Rotten Tomatoes score for this film) when it made its explosive theatrical debut on October 18, 2023. Apparently, Takashi Yamazaki did a wonderful job directing it. And on an almost literal shoestring budget of under $15 million USD to boot. In fact, Yamazaki did such a wonderful job directing this latest entry to the Godzilla film franchise that he’s already going to get an Oscar for it. Or rather, he will once there are Oscars to award.

Godzilla Minus One: Best Visual Effects Oscar Details

You can tell that this is a self-demonstrating image here.

Toho International is proud to announce that Godzilla Minus One has been shortlisted for Visual Effects at the upcoming 2024 Academy Awards. This means that when the 96th Academy Awards rolls around on March 10, 2024; we’ll be seeing this latest Godzilla film on the list. It’s not a sure thing though. An Oscar nomination doesn’t quite mean that this Godzilla film will automatically get it. However, at the very least, this shortlisting is a pretty strong indication that this kaiju stands a good chance of getting that fabled Oscar.

That Visual Effects Oscar isn’t the only award Godzilla Minus One will be getting though. Already, this latest Godzilla film has won Best VFX at the Florida Film Critics Association. Not only that, but the North Carolina Film Critics Association have also nominated the film for a grand total of 3 separate awards. These awards include: Best Film, Best Foreign Film, and Best Visual Effects. Clearly, these other film critics are on the same track as the ones who shortlisted this film for an Oscar in essentially the same category. Seriously, just watch any trailer for the film, and you’ll agree too. Or you know, you can purchase tickets to watch this film in theaters right now.

Remember: all this on a budget of less than $15 million USD.
