Paramount Pictures has decided who will lead the sequel to their surprise horror hit, Smile. It has been announced that Naomi Scoot has been cast in the untitled sequel.
Per Deadline, Parker Finn will be returning to write and direct the sequel, which turned into a major hit for Paramount Pictures after they decided to pivot from a streaming release on Paramount+. On a reported budget of $17 million, the film went on to gross $217 million at the worldwide box office.
Smile focused on therapist Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon), who, after witnessing the suicide of a patient, becomes convinced she is being threatened by a supernatural entity. In addition to Bacon, the film also stars Jessie T. Usher, Kyle Gallner, Kal Penn, Caitlin Stasey, and Rob Morgan.
Scott’s first significant film role came when she portrayed the Pink Ranger, in 2017’s film adaptation of Power Rangers. She would go on to star as Princess Jasmine in the 2019 live-action adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin. The film proved to be a major commercial success, grossing $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
Her next project is A24’s Wizards!, alongside Pete Davidson and Orlando Bloom.
