Michael Waldron is a favorite son at Marvel Studios after his turns on Loki and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. He was already set to write the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, but now he’ll also take his talents to The Kang Dynasty. Both films are the cap to the current Multiverse Saga going on in the MCU. Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce both films.
As for the director of The Kang Dynasty, it was supposed to be Destin Daniel Cretton, but he’s dropped out to focus on WonderMan and Shang-Chi 2. The search for a director is on right now, with candidates being looked at. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has a release date of May 1st, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars comes out on May 7th, 2027.
Waldron has been busy with Marvel since he started his career on Rick and Morty. in the meantime, he’s written two seasons of the pro wrestling drama, Heels.
Marvel Shakes Up 2024 And Beyond
The recent news at Marvel Studios hasn’t been great for them. They’ve had a series of box office disappointments (for their standards) in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and now The Marvels. In response, they’ve decided to push back all their films in 2024 besides Deadpool 3. The TV division also saw changes earlier this year, with showrunners being introduced and a new brand titled Marvel: Spotlight. The new brand will focus on street-level heroes or other stories that might or might not be part of the overall MCU continuity. It’s a place for filmmakers to spread their creative talent on smaller budgets than normal MCU shows.
As for their plans, those plans are also in a bit of a holding pattern while the legal proceedings for embattled actor Jonathan Majors go on. He’s in legal trouble due to domestic disturbances and assaults that are alleged against him. His character, Kang the Conqueror, is set to the be the big bad for this phase, so we’ll have to see how it all turns out.
So, what do you think of Michael Waldron joiniing Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as a writer?
