It looks like Melissa Barrera has reportedly been dropped from Scream 7 due to comments about the Israel-Palestine conflict. Our friends at One Take News confirm a report from Variety, that Barrera has been quietly let go from the project due to statements she made about the conflict. She was the star of the two most recent films in the franchise and set up to be the star for this seventh film in the franchise. She played protagonist Samantha Carpenter, the child of Billy Loomis.
She starred alongside Jenna Ortega in Scream (2021) and Scream VI. She was set to lead the seventh installment of the long-running slasher franchise. Christopher Landon is set to direct that film, taking over from Radio Silence. They’re moving on to direct and write a feature from Universal titled Dracula’s Daughter, which also stars Barrera.
There’s no update on that project or if Sam Carpenter will be written out or recast in the seventh film.
This is a developing story and we’ll update as we get more news.
