After rumors that he’d be playing Clark Kent, Nicholas Hoult is actually playing his archnemesis, Lex Luthor. Deadline is reporting that the young actor is joining James Gunn‘s Superman: Legacy. David Corenswet is playing Superman and Rachel Brosnahan is Lois Lane in the significant DC tentpole film. Warner Bros. is no stranger to Hoult, having cast him in Mad Max: Fury Road and Juror No. 2. Actress Maria Garbiela de Faria is also playing The Engineer in the film, one of the villains.
Hoult follows in the footsteps of actors like Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, and Jesse Eisenberg who have played Luthor on the big screen. Superman: Legacy is set for a theatrical release on July 11th, 2025.
James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the film earlier this year at a huge event that showed off the DC film slate. It’s launching their DC multimedia universe and it’s the center project of the whole thing.
