Get ready for The Abyss like you’ve never seen it before. James Cameron’s sci-fi adventure will officially return to theaters for one night only this December. But that’s not all. The Abyss: Special Edition will also mark the first time the film has played in remastered 4K.

As Cameron himself said, “If you haven’t seen the film before, this is the way to experience it, and if you have, it will be like the first time all over again. So, get out to the theaters and enjoy.”

Check out the trailer for The Abyss: Special Edition in 4K below.

In The Abyss, a nuclear sub mysteriously sinks and a private oil rig crew, led by foreman Bud Brigman (Ed Harris), is recruited to join a team of Navy SEALs on a search and rescue effort. The group soon finds themselves on a spectacular life-and-death odyssey 25,000 feet below the ocean’s surface, where they find a mysterious force that could either change the world — or destroy it.

The film comes from writer/director Cameron and stars Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Michael Biehn.

20th Century Studios will present the one-night theatrical release of The Abyss: Special Edition on Wednesday, December 6. Tickets officially go on sale November 20. So, keep an eye on Fandango or your local theater’s website to snap up your tickets before they’re sold out.
