The Steam Deck came out in 2022 and changed the way handheld PCs were thought of. Competitors jumped in to try to emulate and knock Valve off the top of the market, but their device is still the top dog. Now, the top dog is getting a bit better with some much-needed changes. First off, the LCD screen is turning into an OLED screen. That means an HDR OLED display that is capable of brighter colors, blacker blacks, and striking contrast. It’s designed from the ground up for gaming with brilliant clarity and a larger picture.

Valve is also putting a better battery in the device with 30-50% better battery life than the current model. They fit a bigger battery that draws less power in the same sized case for the Steam Deck. They also added in a more efficient AMD APU. The Steam Deck OLED also comes with Wifi 6E for increased bandwidth and lower latency. This means faster, sometimes up to 3 times faster, download and upload speeds on your Deck.

Finally for the big improvements, they’ve upgraded the fans and thermals for the Steam Deck OLED. It runs cooler, and weighs 30g less than the LCD model.

They’ve also announced that they’re making a Limited Edition Steam Deck OLED model that is only available in certain regions (US and Canada)

They’re also discontinuing the previous model, so if you’d like to grab one for cheaper, you can do so on Steam.

Here’s the breakdown for each model that’ll be available.
