The CW’s Riverdale spent years putting a dark, supernatural, soapy twist on the classic Archie comics. But if you thought the CW series was the only unconventional take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead, you’d be wrong.
Netflix will soon release The Archies, a feature film that remixes the Archie comics, Bollywood style. Unlike the darker, edgier tone of Riverdale, The Archies looks like it preserves the original wholesome vibe of the comics – just within a new 1960s India setting.
Check out the trailer below for your first look.
Here’s the official synopsis from Netflix:
Set in 1960’s India in the fictional hill station town called Riverdale, The Archies is a coming-of-age musical following the lives of the town’s favorite set of teenagers – Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Ethel, and Dilton. Seen through the lens of the unique Anglo-Indian community, The Archies explores friendship, freedom, love, heartbreak and rebellion.
The Archies comes from writers Reema Kagti, Zoya Akhtar, and Ayesha Devitre. Akhtar also directed the film.
The film stars Dot., Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Mihir Ahuja, Suhana Khan, Vedang Raina, and Yuvraj Menda.
