Director David Robert Mitchell and star Maika Monroe are coming back for a sequel to the cult hit It Follows. Maika Monreo will also reprise her role as Jay Height from the first film. It Follows grossed an impressive $15 million on a miraculously small budget.
Good Fear Content will co-produce with Neon. Mitchell serves as a producer with Jake Weiner and Chris Bender of Good Fear Content, and the original producers of “It Follows,” David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green, Laura Smith. Principal photography will commence in 2024.
Mitchell has done several films up to this point in his career. He directed The Myth Of The American Sleepover in 2018, Under The Silver Lake starring Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough, and now has an untitled movie at Warner Bros. starring Anne Hatheway. Monroe is starring in NEON’s Longlegs with Nicolas Cage which releases in 2024. She also starred in Greta, Honey Boy, and Hot Summer Nights.
If you need a refresher on It Follows, here’s a synopsis.
For 19-year-old Jay, autumn should be about school, boys, and weekends out at the lake. But after a seemingly-innocent sexual encounter, she is plagued by strange visions and the inescapable sense that someone, or something, is following her. Faced with this burden, Jay and her friends must find a way to escape the horrors that seem to be only a few steps behind.
