This weekend’s box office had been predicted to belong to Five Nights At Freddy’s. However, while it did very well, it surpassed even the studio’s own expectations.
Freddy Cleans Up the Box Office
Despite the movie tracking to be number one at the box office with a $40 million opening the movie instead brought in nearly twice that with $78 million as per Box Office Mojo. This is impressive considering the movie opened day-and-date with Peacock. This makes the film the second-highest opening for a day-and-date streaming release. Marvel’s Black Widow is the top earner with $80 Million.
Furthermore, It helped that the movie lacked any real star power. Otherwise, this normally would be an impediment, but the movie coasted by based on the strength of the IP alone and didn’t rely on cast interviews or junkets to promote the movie.
The Rest Of The Box Office
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was in the second place spot and brought in $14.7M. Killers of the Flower Moon brought in $9 Million and had a 61% dropoff from its debut last week. After Death debuted in the number 4 spot. Meanwhile, The Exorcist: Believer dropped to the 5th place spot, bringing in $3.1 Million.
Next Weekend Is Anybody’s To Win
With The Marvels arriving on November 10th, most studios are steering clear from releasing anything next week. The biggest release next week is Quiz Lady, a Hulu release. It’s unlikely that the film will manage to affect the box office in the slightest.
The theatres will probably see significant drop-offs for most movies as people save their box office money for The Marvels. It’s possible that Five Nights At Freddy’s will see a 50-60% dropoff next week depending on how much audience they can retain next week.
As always we’ll tune in next week and find out!
