Spy x Family season 2 Ep. 2 is a 2-part episode, consisting of “Bond’s Strategy to Stay Alive” and “Damian’s Field Research Trip”. In the original manga by Tatsuya Endo, both of these stories are extra chapters that aren’t technically part of the main story. Thus, it’s only natural that Wit Studio and CloverWorks would make both parts of this episode into slice-of-life comedy fun.

Spy x Family Season 2 Ep. 2 “Bond’s Strategy to Stay Alive / Damian’s Field Research Trip”: Synopsis
Normally, this would be the part of the review where I would give a detailed and spoilery plot summary of Spy x Family season 2 Ep. 2 “Bond’s Strategy to Stay Alive / Damian’s Field Research Trip”. However, this is the spoiler-free version of my usual reviews. Thus, you all get an official synopsis from Crunchyroll instead. You can read that below:

Spy x Family Season 2 Ep. 2 “Bond’s Strategy to Stay Alive / Damian’s Field Research Trip”: The Good
Spy x Family season 2 Ep. 2 “Bond’s Strategy to Stay Alive / Damian’s Field Research Trip” is just pure fluff in both parts. That’s basically the story of this 2-part episode. Nothing but slice-of-life comedy fluff. I am not disparaging this episode, by the way. On the contrary, this is praise from me. I love slice-of-life comedy stories. It’s why I love anime series like A Galaxy Next Door and Horimiya. They’re my go-to stories for relaxing after a bad day. So yeah, this is why I give props to the story of this 2-part episode.
The animation of Spy x Family season 2 Ep. 2 “Bond’s Strategy to Stay Alive / Damian’s Field Research Trip” is par for the course for this anime. Meaning that that Wit Studio and CloverWorks have done it again, and kept up a high standard of animation detail. As you can see above, even the animation style closely matches that of Tatsuya Endo’s art style for the manga. I know this is par for the course for anime adaptations, but it’s always nice to see animators adhering to the source material’s original art style.
Spy x Family Season 2 Ep. 2 “Bond’s Strategy to Stay Alive / Damian’s Field Research Trip”: The Bad
Honestly, my sole complaint about Spy x Family season 2 Ep. 2 “Bond’s Strategy to Stay Alive / Damian’s Field Research Trip” was a moment near the beginning where the animation turned kinda potato, with Yor and Anya turning into blobs for a few seconds. Admittedly, this could very well just be a case of Stylistic Suck on the animator’s part. The blobby animation style could be an emphasis on the comedic nature of the scene. That’s why I’m excusing this one for once.
