The long-gestating rumors about Sony creating a PS5 Slim model are true. Sony confirmed the news earlier today and also confirmed that its due out in November. There are some pretty exciting details about the redesign, including an optional disc-drive for sale.

The new Slim models will retail for $499 for a disc version and $449 for a version without a disc drive. Both models include 1TB of internal storage, which is an upgrade over the current models that only house 825GB.

The disc drive on the disc version is actually detachable and can be purchased separately for $80 and mounted to the digital unit. The one thing about the new version is that it doesn’t come with a vertical stand, only a horizontal one. The vertical stand is sold separately and retails for $30.

The new console will release in the US at the official PlayStation store and “select local retailers” in November. It’ll be available globally in the “following months” according to the PlayStation announcement.

This version isn’t just a new redesign of the old console, it’s outright replacing current PS5 models. Once the remaining stock of consoles is out, they won’t be manufacturing the old version again. Sony says the new model has been reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models.
