Set a reminder, folks. The Season 1 finale of Star Wars: Ahsoka arrives tonight at 9:00 pm EST. Thus far, the series has been heralded by many fans, especially those of The Clone Wars and Rebels, as the best live-action Star Wars offering yet. Chocked full of call-backs to the two, animated series, and with superb performances from Lars Mikkelsen and the late Ray Stevenson, the show has been nothing if not captivating. Avoiding the Rise of Skywalker “somehow, Palpatine has returned” nonsense, this series has perfectly crafted Thrawn’s return. So what can we expect from the finale? Likely some disappointment, and a whole lot of unanswered questions…. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
The big, looming questions are, of course, whether Thrawn will escape back to the known galaxy far, far away, and whether Ahsoka, Sabine and Ezra will somehow accompany him aboard the Chimera, or otherwise. However, darker, more mysterious queries still linger. What is that calls to Baylon Skoll? And what has spooked Thrawn and the Night Sister Great Mothers so much that they’re so desperate to escape their exile? Don’t forget Shin Hati, who rode off, defeated. Be prepared, Star Wars fans. We’re probably only to get answers to a couple of these questions at best.
Star Wars: Ahsoka will assuredly end on a cliffhanger
Let’s not forget: Showrunner Dave Filoni has already confirmed that all stories in the “Mando-Verse” will converge and culminate with his feature film, slated for 2026. (Of course, that assumes the writers strike and actor’s strike haven’t pushed that date out….) Between now and then we know there will be a fourth season of The Mandalorian. There’s also the lingering possibility of a second season of The Book of Boba Fett, too. Though there’s no official word, but there could even be a second season of Ahsoka in the mix. That’s a whole lot of Star Wars to come before this overall story arc concludes. It’s in that timeframe in between when we expect much will come to light.
So what are our guesses for the finale? Thrawn, the Night Sisters, and his legion of Night Troopers escape aboard the Chimaera, leaving Ahoska & Co. stranded on Peridea. (Not to fret; between Ezra’s and Ahsoka’s connections to the Purgill, they likely won’t be stuck there long.) Hera’s fears will be realized when the Chimaera arrives in New Republic space, much to the chagrin of Senator Xiono (seriously screw that guy). That arrival will be our cliffhanger. But what of Baylon Skoll?
What happens with Baylon Skoll?
Baylon clearly has his own agenda, but what it entails remains unclear. What calls to him? Even more enigmatic. One theory is that we may see the Bendu from Star Wars: Rebels also make a live-action appearance. Another guess is that it could be the resurrected Son of the Mortis Gods from The Clone Wars (because no one really stays dead in Star Wars, do they, these days?) Whatever it is, fans will be disappointed in the outcome. Not because of the story, mind you. Sadly, disappointment is inevitable due to Ray Stevenson’s tragic, untimely death before the series aired, assuring Baylon Skoll’s character arc will come to a close with tonight’s finale. He elevated every scene in which he appeared in Ahsoka, and will truly be missed.
