Fans of the economic fantasy anime Spice and Wolf might be aware that studio Passione (Higurashi: When They Cry – Gou, Mieruko-chan, Yuri is My Job!) is working on a reboot of the 2008 anime series, which was itself the anime adaptation of the light novels of the name by Isuna Hasekura (World End Economica). Well, Passione naturally wants to promote their new reboot anime. Thus, it explains why they’re giving us a new look at it. Starting with a pair of gorgeous new character visuals.

Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Character Visuals: Details

Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Holo character visual.
The colors of sunset are quite fitting for a harvest goddess.

The official Twitter account for the Spice and Wolf anime just Tweeted a pair of new character visuals to promote the upcoming Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf reboot anime. You can see the first of them above. Fans will definitely recognize Holo (voiced by Ami Koshimizu) the Wise Wolf: the forsaken harvest goddess. As forsaken as she is though, the visual does her justice. The waxing light of sunrise glints off the golden ears of wheat, highlighting their importance to Holo. It doesn’t hurt that the golden light is also glinting off of Holo’s hair to highlight that.

Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Kraft Lawrence character visual.
The deuteragonist of this story, and driving the main economic plot to boot.

You can see the second of these new character visuals promoting Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf above. This one depicts the deuteragonist of the story: Kraft Lawrence (voiced by Jun Fukuyama) the merchant. The golden morning light is just as appropriate for him as it is for Holo, but for entirely different reasons. That golden color is also the color of, well, gold. Gold is the currency by which even this fantasy economy works with, so that golden light is a symbol of Lawrence’s desire for wealth as well. Perfect for an economic story.

Alas, all we have for a release date for Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf is on the character visuals themselves. Apparently, this reboot anime will make its debut sometime in 2024. We’ll just have to wait for Passione to give us a more specific release date later. Tune back in to THS to find that out when we do.

In the meantime, you can watch the original 2008 Spice and Wolf anime on Crunchyroll.
