Shudder is not canceling The Last Drive-In. No. They’re actually upping the ante and renewing it for a higher number of movies and a new series format starting in March 2024. First though, they have a new special for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, two Halloween speicials, a holiday-themed special in December, and a Valentine’s Day special in February.
The new format means that we’ll be getting more movies than ever from Joe Bob and Darcy, but it’ll be single-titles rather than double features. That means that they can do episodes year-round. We’ll get new episodes every other Friday. Joe Bob’s presence on Shudder won’t be limited to Summertime and the specials.
Joe Bob and Darcy have seen changes to The Last Drive-In set and even the studio where they film. They originally taped in Texas, before moving to New Jersey for the pandemic. Now they reside in Georgia on the same lot that they film The Walking Dead series. Here’s what Joe Bob had to say about the renewal and changes.
“As everyone knows, you should never invite me into your home, because I always show up. Shudder has graciously invited me to stick around for a sixth year, and I intend to use that kindness to haunt your phones, laptops and big-screen TVs with the most ghastly examples of perversity in the history of cinema. Plus a few old jokes and some celebrity guests who will still return our phone calls. Put it all together and it spells PARTAY.”
AMC Networks’ Executive Vice President of Streaming Courtney Thomasma had this to say:
“We’re delighted to bring Joe Bob, Darcy and the rest of The Last Drive-In Team back for our biggest season yet of crazy, scary and crazy-scary movies and specials, with the most entertaining commentary on TV. Joe Bob will be hosting more movie nights than any previous season and we can’t wait to continue the Friday night party with our Shudder family.”
So we’ll be looking forward to plenty of The Last Drive-In in 2024 and more from Joe Bob and Darcy!
