Despite tracking for a $13- $18 million domestic opening, Expend4bles only brought in $8.3 Million in an overall disappointing box office.

No Winners At This Weekend’s Box Office

Expend4bles

As per Box Office Mojo, despite being Number One at the box office, The Nun II took home the distinction of being the year’s lowest-grossing number-one film with only $8.4 Million. Only $100,000 ahead of the second-place movie this weekend, Expend4bles.

Expend4bles was tracking for a higher opening, but a slew of streaming releases and franchise low review scores meant many were avoiding the action team-up film. With a reported budget of $100 million, the movie is a colossal failure for Lionsgate

A Haunting in Venice was third, with $6.3 Million. The Equalizer 3 came in the fourth place spot with $4.7 Million. Finally, Barbie rounded out the Top 5 with $3.2 Million.

Could Dumb Money’s Strategy Work?

Dumb Money

Dumb Money expanded from eight theatres last week to 616 this past weekend. This brought it into the 8th place spot, which is typically unremarkable; however, the studio is approaching the film with a slow release. The studio is relying on word of mouth and positive reviews to push the movie into a respectable opening when it hits wide release next week. The film cost $30 million reportedly.

The movie grossed $2.8 Million this past weekend. It is predicted to end up with $11-$12 Million at the domestic box office over next weekend. Which could put it in the Number One spot.

However, next week sees the release of Saw X and The Creator. Which is expected to pull in approximately $10-15 Million and $15-$20 Million respectively. It looks to be a tight race at the box office next weekend.

As always, we’ll check in next week and see!
