Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy shared an update about his Star Wars film. It looks like the project has been put on hold due to the writers’ strike.

Back in 2022, Levy announced he would be making a new Star Wars film for the franchise; however, many projects have been delayed in Hollywood because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. The Deadpool 3 director broke the news and talked about his Star Wars project. In an interview with Collider, Levy addressed that the film was barely in development, and ever since the strike happened everything had to be halted.

The Writer’s Strike Has Pushed Back Shawn Levy’s Star Wars Film

“We were just starting the process of developing my movie, and the writer strike happened,” Levy said. “So we are in that holding pattern that so much of our industry is in.”

With the strike delaying his film, it’s uncertain when will the project resume and even if the strike is resolved before the end of the year there could still be a short delay for its development. According to, it is reported that the Deadpool 3 director won’t have a script ready for this year, as well as starting pre-production or actual production until 2024, also determining the possible release to 2025 which he’s feeling positive about.

Shawn Levi

This news may be disappointing to Star Wars fans but it seems Levi is hopeful things will get better for his new Star Wars film. From what we know, it looks like Levi’s film delay could apply to the other Lucasfilms movies that were recently announced at this year’s Star Wars Celebration. With the confirmation of the three films and its directors including Dave Filoni, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and James Mangold; it also reported that there is no timeline set for which project will proceed first in the franchise.

Shawn Levi may be a really busy man alongside the projects he is working on, especially Star Wars. Although, he does have concerns he is confident about hopefully proceeding with the project at some point.
