While The Nun II was tracking for a $30 Million opening, it managed to exceed that slightly and take the number one spot this weekend.

The Nun II At The Box Office

The Nun II

The Nun II managed to take in $32.6 Million this weekend as per Box Office Mojo. While this was enough to take down The Equalizer 3; this still managed to be well below what the original Nun brought in with its opening weekend ($53.8 million). This is also historically a good weekend for Warner Bros. Discovery to drop a horror movie as both IT and IT: Chapter 2 have historically done well for the studio in that spot with larger openings than The Nun II.

This could be for any number of reasons. Warner Bros. Discovery does have the Max service that they put movies on, and that’s a lower-cost way for those to watch the movie. The movie also wasn’t reaching the numbers of its predecessor regarding trailer views. A combination of these undoubtedly led to The Nun II having a smaller opening.

Rounding Out The Top 5

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3

The Equalizer 3 held on in the 2nd place spot, making $12.1 Million. Which puts it at $107 Million worldwide on a $70 million budget.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 brought in $10 Million. Its budget is estimated to be between $15-20 Million, so it’s already on track to make its money back over the next couple of weeks if it can maintain its momentum.

The Bollywood action film, Jawan, brought in $6.2 Million in the fourth place spot.

Barbie still held on strong in the 5th place spot, bringing in $5.9M.

Can A Haunting In Venice Spook Audiences Away?

Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot in A Haunting in Venice

The major release next weekend is A Haunting In Venice. The movie doesn’t have tracking available but the previous movie in the franchise, Death on the Nile from 2022, earned only $12.8 Million on its opening weekend. Considering that we’re in the midst of multiple strikes in Hollywood; and that commercially, there was a decrease from 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express and its opening of $28.6 Million to Death on the Nile‘s $12.8 Million, it’s likely that A Haunting In Venice will bring in around $5-10 Million next weekend.

As always, we’ll check in next week and see!
