Fans of Kaina of the Great Snow Sea, both the anime and the manga of the same name by Tsutomu Nihei (Blame!, Biomega, Knights of Sidonia), might recall that Polygon Pictures (The Sky Crawlers, Knights of Sidonia, Godzilla Trilogy) are making an anime film sequel to it in the form of Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Star Sage. You know, because 11 episodes weren’t enough to finish the story? Fortunately, Polygon Pictures has just released a new trailer for that anime film to tell us when we’re going to get to see it. Along with a new visual, of course. Don’t believe me? Then why not see for yourself below, starting with that new trailer?
Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Star Sage ~ Trailer Details
Fuji TV has just released a new trailer for Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Star Sage on YouTube. Said trailer is entirely in Japanese, even right down to the captions though. Thus, we don’t have a clear idea of what the story is about unless you happen to understand Japanese. However, we can go off the visuals to tell us more about this upcoming anime film. I think we can safely say two words that dominate this trailer: giant robots. Tsutomu Nihei does love his giant robots, after all. Even in a high fantasy story, you can see the ludicrous number of giant robots in it.
As for when we’ll get to see these high fantasy giant robots in action? Well, the end of that trailer reveals that Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Star Sage will make its theatrical debut on October 13, 2023. However, this anime film will be in Japanese theaters only, and we don’t know when we in the NA region or any other region outside Japan will get it yet. Tune back in to THS later to find that out when we do. In the meantime, you can watch the anime series on Crunchyroll.
Bonus: Synopsis
That’s not all, folks! We do have a tagline for Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Star Sage, which translated from the text at the bottom of the key visual above reads: “This is the first step for all mankind.” However, if you’re confused as to what this anime in general is about, we do have an official synopsis from Crunchyroll. You can read that below:
Humanity’s remnants struggle to survive above the planet atop giant orbital spire trees, safe from the danger below. Rendered unlivable, the Great Snow Sea has turned the world into a no man’s land. While out hunting, young Kaina stumbles upon an unconscious girl who’s floated up from the surface. The discovery of this trespasser brings new hope for mankind’s future—and unimaginable danger!
