When Harry Met Sally. Sleepless in Seattle. You’ve Got Mail. The combination of Nora Ephron and Meg Ryan ruled the 90s romantic comedy scene. Now, Ryan’s hoping to rekindle that rom-com magic in her new film, What Happens Later.
Ryan stars as Willa opposite David Duchovny as Bill, a pair of former lovers who meet again years later when they get snowed in at the same airport. As they navigate their re-meet-cute, they’ll have to confront their shared past while figuring out if this chance encounter means anything for their futures.

Here’s the official synopsis of What Happens Later:
Two ex lovers, Bill (David Duchovny) and Willa (Meg Ryan) get snowed in at a regional airport overnight. Indefinitely delayed, Willa, a magical thinker, and Bill, a catastrophic one, find themselves just as attracted to and annoyed by one another as they did decades earlier. But as they unpack the riddle of their mutual past and compare their lives to the dreams they once shared, they begin to wonder if their reunion is mere coincidence, or something more enchanted.
In addition to starring, Ryan also directs the film. It marks her second feature directing role, after 2015’s Ithaca. She also helped adapt the screenplay alongside Kirk Lynn and Steven Dietz, who wrote the play “Shooting Star” the film is based on. Producers include Jonathan Duffy, Kelly Williams, Laura D. Smith, and Kristin Mann.
What Happens Later premieres in theaters October 13.
