It’s almost time to set sail for Greece! The My Big Fat Greek Wedding franchise returns for its third feature on September 8.
The popular rom-com trilogy launched with its first film back in 2002. It told the love story of a Greek woman, Toula, who falls in love with non-Greek Ian. When they decide to get married, Toula must get her very Greek family to accept him while she comes to terms with her own heritage and identity. Toula, Ian, and the whole Portokalos family later returned for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 in 2016.
Since it’s been a while since the films premiered, Focus Features just released a little recap of the previous two movies to get fans caught up and ready for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3. And guiding your refresher is none other than Toula herself, Nia Vardalos.
Watch the official recap of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 1 and 2 below.
In addition to starring as Toula, Vardalos also wrote all three films. She also directs the upcoming third installment.
In My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, Toula’s father has recently passed away. This leads to a Portokalos family trip to Greece. There, Toula makes it her mission to find some of her father’s old friends. The description for the film promises “a heartwarming and hilarious trip full of love, twists and turns.” Opa!
Vardalos reprises her role as Toula and John Corbett returns as Ian. The film also stars Elena Kampouris, Gia Carides, Joey Fatone, Louis Mandylor, Lainie Kazan, and Andrea Martin.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 premieres in theaters September 8. You can reserve your tickets now.
