Did you see the words “Justin Timberlake” and “Reptile” and have your brain jump to “J. Lo” and “Anaconda” or are you normal?
As it turns out, the upcoming Netflix feature will not see Timberlake fighting a giant reptile (probably). It’s actually a detective thriller hitting the streaming platform in October.
Here’s the official synopsis for Reptile from Netflix:
Following the brutal murder of a young real estate agent, a hardened detective attempts to uncover the truth in a case where nothing is as it seems, and by doing so dismantles the illusions in his own life.
The film stars Benicio del Toro as the detective. Reptile also reunites del Toro with Alicia Silverstone; the pair worked together years ago in 1997’s Excess Baggage. In addition to del Toro, Silverstone, and Timberlake, the film also stars Eric Bogosian, Domenick Lombardozzi, Frances Fisher, Ato Essandoh, Michael Carmen Pitt, Karl Glusman, and Matilda Lutz.

Reptile comes from director Grant Singer. This marks Singer’s first time directing a feature film; he previously directed music videos for huge stars like Taylor Swift and The Weeknd. Singer worked on the script with Benjamin Brewer and del Toro, who also executive produced the film.
“I think the movie will be exciting to people who like to watch something where you don’t know where it’s leading you, where a film is going to have twists and turns and deceive you,” teased Singer. “And people who like things that are intense and visceral and suspenseful, I think they’ll find something exciting in this.”
Reptile premieres on Netflix October 6. Meanwhile, check back to THS for more updates.
